The SILVEYRA Lab

I am an international medical doctor from Yucatan, Mexico. I have worked as a sub-investigator in the clinical oncology field, where I developed a deep fascination with learning and understanding the physiopathology of cancer. As part of the team at the Silveyra Lab, I look forward to gaining knowledge on cell and molecular research in lung disease, providing me with a broader awareness of this topic for my future practice. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, playing baseball and board games, and reading about science, among other things.

I am a researcher with a background in respiratory biology and translational lung research. My research interests focus on understanding the role of sex hormones and estrogen receptor-mediated signaling pathways in the pathogenesis of asthma and other chronic lung diseases. I am particularly interested in elucidating molecular and cellular mechanisms that contribute to sex-specific differences in lung disease progression and therapeutic responses, with the goal of identifying novel targets for improved management of respiratory diseases. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball and cricket, as well as chess.

I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Health. My research work investigates the mechanisms underlying sex differences in the inflammatory response induced by ambient ozone exposure in the lung epithelium, using in-vitro models. I have an MS in Environmental Health from IU and I have worked as a lab manager for the Silveyra lab for a year. When not in the lab, I enjoy knitting, reading, and playing games with friends.

 I hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology and have extensive experience with a wide range of molecular and biochemical techniques, including five years as a Lab Manager and Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the IU School of Medicine. In my recent role, I oversaw daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, vendor coordination, inventory management, safety compliance, and training of students and staff. In addition to my operational expertise, This background helps me understand the needs of researchers and support their work effectively.

I am a junior at Indiana University, majoring in Biology and Animal Behavior with a minor in Maternal & Child Health. I plan to attend medical school after graduation. I play competitive pickleball at IU, and I also enjoy outdoor activities like running and bird-watching. 

I’m currently a junior at IU majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish and Informatics on the Pre-Med track. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, hiking, reading, and volunteering as an interpreter at a clinic back home

I am currently a junior at Indiana University studying Community Health and Psychology. After graduating, I hope to pursue a master's in public health. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and playing instruments like the guitar and piano!

I am studying Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology at Indiana University on the pre-medical track. In my free time, I enjoy working on my dirtbike and racing go-karts. 

I am currently a junior at Indiana University majoring in Biology with a minor in psychology on the pre-med track. Outside of school, I enjoy spending times with friends and family, watching and playing sports like football and basketball, and enjoying nature.
